Floyd Mayweather Jr. who spewed out nasty words against Manny Pacquiao in the past finally has something good to say about the Filipino boxing champ. In his first video interview following his release from jail, Floyd Mayweather Jr. called Pacquiao an “unbelievable fighter.”
“I think Pacquiao is an unbelievable fighter and hopefully we could make the fight in the future,” Mayweather said in an interview.
Mayweather, who spent 2 months in jail for domestic abuse, made the statement during the movie premiere of “Freelancers,” which stars his close friend, rapper 50 Cent. 50 Cent has reportedly partnered with Mayweather to put up The Money Team (TMT) promotions.
The partnership fueled speculations that the long awaited bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather could finally push through.
“When that thing (Pacquiao fight) presents itself then I’ll have to go out there and do what I have to do,” Mayweather said.
Months before he was incarcerated, the boxer virtually called Pacquiao “dumb” for not accepting his $40-million offer for the mega fight.
“Just by speaking to Pacquiao on the phone, I mean, he’s not one of the sharpest knives in the drawer,” Mayweather said. “He faces Floyd Mayweather, he’s not getting 50-50. Not at all. No one is getting 50-50.”
Mayweather even launched a scathing diatribe against Pacquiao in 2010, wherein he accused Pacquiao of benefitting from performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).
“Pacquiao, he can’t speak no English. He never seen a contract he didn’t like. Mother f—– signed with two companies. Look it up. And then this mother f—— with Nike only got 70 Gs. How stupid can a mother f—– be? Reebok gave me a million dollars for three weeks. I wore Reebok s— for a week for a million dollars. … This mother f——’s name is Emmanuel. He got a fake name, taking power pellets,” said by Mayweather.
But Mayweather seemed to have made a 180-degree turn since leaving jail last week. His kind words for the Filipino boxer fueled rumors that the superfight might actually take place soon.
Earlier, 50 Cent said his TMT Promotions is in touch with Pacquiao’s handlers. The rapper is confident that they could iron the mega fight out with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc.
“I believe I can (make the fight happen),” the rapper said, as quoted by Boxing Scene. “I believe I’m a big reason why the possibility is coming closer.”
“We are in close communications (with Top Rank),” 50 Cent revealed. “So hopefully, we can get the show going.”
