Mayweather and Pacquiao had phone conversation

Mayweather vs PacquiaoIt seems that our dream super-fight might really happen anytime soon. I just watch the late night news last night on channel 2 here in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao says he personally talk with Floyd Mayweather on the phone regarding the super bout and says he’s agreeable to 50/50 purse split… they will just wait for floyd’s decision according to Pacquiao. Even Bob Arum confirmed that a chat between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather occurred over the telephone last night. The WBO welterweight champion said he is willing to face Mayweather “anytime,” as long as he will be given an equal split of the fight revenues.

Mayweather called Michael Koncz to talk to Manny, and Michael Koncz put Manny on the phone,” said Arum. “And Manny happened to be there, and so then Michael put him on the phone. Obviously, they’re the fighters, so it’s good that they’re talking.” “Manny said that they have to resolve the date and other issues, and other things are happening.”

He just said, O.K., goodbye,” Arum said, referring to Mayweather’s response. “Michael was there for the whole conversation. It was two minutes.” Arum elaborated on Koncz’s role in the matter. “Look, this is nothing new. Floyd’s been talking to Michael for awhile,” Arum said. “The only thing that’s news was that Manny was there and Michael put him on to talk. This talk about a 50-50 split has been going on for a while. It’s just that this was the first time they (Mayweather and Pacquiao) spoke to each other on the phone.”

I said just give me a 50-50 split in revenue and there would be no problem, anytime. It’s up to you. We’ll wait for your answer,” Pacquiao said. If Mayweather agrees, the fight could take place in May. This was contrary to the claim that Pacquiao’s next fight would be in June. However, a May 5 fight date between Pacquiao and Mayweather would not be “economically smart” said Arum.

Arum also touched on the proposed temporary 38,000-seat outdoor venue in Las Vegas that he plans on getting built for the June 9 fight, a move he told the Los Angeles Times would have garnered an extra $50.5 million in revenue if Pacquiao-Mayweather were staged there. He agrued that a temporary stadium would be needed to host the super bout. The venue, said Arum, would likely be available in late May. While initial reports had the makeshift stadium headed for the Strip, Arum clarified its location.

No. Near the strip, but not on the strip,” Arum said. “It’s close by to the original place we were thinking about. It’s beautiful. Plenty of room. Great access, great parking. We visited the site yesterday. The construction people, the casino people, they all think it’s a great location.”
